FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s the difference between honed and polished tiles?

Honed tiles have a matte finish that absorbs light, whereas polished tiles have a much glossier finish that reflects it. Polished marble tiles also tend to be slightly darker in tone than honed marble tiles made from the same material.

Can every tile in the Lusso collection be used for both walls and floors?

As the texture, material and pattern varies between each of our tile designs, a small number are only suitable for wall surfaces. This is indicated within each product title and description to ensure that you choose the perfect tile for your requirements.

Are marble tiles water resistant?

Marble is a naturally porous material, a selection of our tiles are professionally sealed to the top, but not to the bottom. This still offers ongoing protection and prevents staining, however there is possibility water can leak through to the back of the tiles in bathrooms. A variety of our tiles do not come sealed, so once installed it’s important that the marble is regularly sealed to maintain its appearance and condition.

How do I maintain bathroom and kitchen tiles?

When properly cared for, bathroom and kitchen tiles can last a lifetime. We advise that tiled walls should be cleaned on a weekly basis using a soft cloth and a gentle, neutral soap solution or specialist marble cleaning solution if you have marble tiles. Tiled floors should be mopped frequently using a neutral, soap sloution. It’s important to avoid using any harsh, abrasive or acidic products that could scratch, stain or discolour your surfaces - this includes bleach, baking soda, and vinegar.

What types of marble are used throughout the Lusso tile collection?

We exclusively use the most beautiful and refined marble for our tile and wider collections. This includes Italian Calacatta and Carrara marble which is sourced from the Apuan Mountains in Carrara, the marble capital of the world, as well as Tunisian Grey which is quarried in North Africa. Our tile collection also features Nero Marquina - a deep black limestone extracted from the Basque Country in Northern Spain.

What drill bits do I need to use for drilling tiles?

Our bathroom and kitchen tiles require diamond-tipped bits for drilling. The drill bit is tipped with a diamond surface designed for dry drilling, and forging holes into the most solid types of tile materials.

How do I calculate the right amount of tiles for my project, and what’s the best way to achieve a seamless, luxury finish?

To calculate the number of tiles you need, measure the total area (length × width) of the wall or floor you plan to cover. Check the tile’s coverage on its packaging, then add around 10-15% extra to account for cuts, patterns, or future repairs. For a flawless, luxury finish, plan your layout in advance - consider symmetry, grout line placement, and tile orientation. Using spacers ensures even spacing, while professional-grade adhesives and grouts help create a smooth, long-lasting result. For wetroom floors or high-traffic areas, choose tiles with the appropriate slip resistance and durability to combine safety with style.
