The Rise of Coloured Bathrooms

Bold colours are driving bathroom trends in 2025, making colour a key element for creating unique, statement interiors. From dopamine decor to colour-drenching decorating techniques, this year we will see colour burst into the bathroom.

But beyond the story’s building tension, another element draws attention: the setting itself. Designed with deliberate focus on tone and texture, the interiors of Black Bag mirror the film's atmosphere of suspense and luxury. Lusso’s signature pieces proudly feature across the bathroom and kitchen making bold design statements that blend sophistication with a sense of mystery - perfectly reflecting the film’s allure.

The Colour Comeback

The bathroom has seen drastic changes in interior design over the last century. Coloured bathrooms were popular throughout the 20th century, after World War II there was a cultural shift towards comfort, stability, and optimism. Pastel colours, such as mint green, pink, butter yellow, and blue, felt cheerful, soft, and reassuring, aligning with the era's newfound focus on family life and homemaking.

In the 1960’s and 70’s homeowners became more materialistic and that was evident across homes. The bathroom began to be valued as a room in its own right with a drastic change led by design. One of the main focuses of a bathroom was the interior, making the space feel lived in and pleasant. In this era, people experimented with colour, materials and shapes leading to innovative and creative spaces. Avocado green was a staple bathroom colour choice, seen across baths, basins and tiles, it symbolised nature and new beginnings. This bold colour trend began to fade in the 80s with a more neutral and conservative approach to design choices. This is when whites, creams, beiges and soft hues were introduced to the design world, now renowned as minimalist design.

Similar to the 60s and 70s, interior designers and homeowners today are beginning to explore bold colour palettes and colour is subtly starting to creep back into bathrooms. A replication of the past, colour schemes are subdued and sophisticated with colours such as earthy taupe and olive green becoming a popular choice. However, the difference between today's coloured bathrooms is that designs often feature a single statement piece of colour set against a neutral colour palette.

"Bold, vibrant hues like deep blues, greens, and even warm pinks are making a statement, bringing personality and energy to these spaces."

Moody Palettes

Choosing the correct colour for your bathroom will affect the overall mood and ambience of your space. Depending on what mood you are aiming for will depend on your colour choice. This can range from a luxury feeling, tranquility or bold energy.

Colour is one of the many ways to bring serenity into your space and promote a sense of calm and wellbeing. For example, different shades of green can help relieve stress and mental fatigue, support focus, and encourage overall wellbeing. Pastel tones such as blush pink and sage are also a great choice for bathrooms as they create a calming effect. Unlike bold or overly bright colours that can feel intense, pastels are gentle on the eyes and evoke feelings of freshness, cleanliness and ease - making the bathroom a peaceful escape rather than just a functional space.

Colours such as navy or gold instantly add a sense of opulence to a bathroom. Gold can seem overpowering, but this can be incorporated through taps, bathroom accessories and hardware which embraces quiet luxury without overwhelming the space. Navy and gold combined beautifully complement each other, navy carries the depth and sophistication of black but with a softer touch. It’s a classical colour often associated with prestige and timeless design usually seen in upscale interiors. In bathrooms, navy adds drama without overpowering, and when paired with gold it creates a luxury, boutique feel.

Coloured Finishes

Colour in bathrooms isn’t just about tiles or painted walls, it can be incorporated through fixtures such as baths, basins and vanity units. Whether you choose to colour drench your space, matching your walls with your decor, or add in a striking contrast of colour against a neutral backdrop, a coloured piece adds character and interest.

Coloured concrete baths and basins are a great way to bring a touch of bold colour to your space. Introducing colour through concrete combines function with visual impact. Coloured concrete allows you to add tone and personality without relying on the use of tiles. Think blush pink, terracotta, saffron, or deep blue, coloured concrete offers a contemporary look.
