Types of Marble: A Study in Natural Variation and Individual Character
Sourced from some of the world’s most prestigious quarries, our marble collection celebrates the extraordinary diversity found within natural stone. From the smoky, atmospheric depth of Iran’s Pietra Grey to the luminous richness of Italian Calacatta, each variety has been carefully selected for its heritage, rarity and unmistakable visual identity.
Yet what makes marble truly remarkable is not just the difference between stone types - but the variation within them. No two blocks are ever identical. Veining can shift from bold and architectural to soft and cloud-like, tones may deepen or lighten depending on mineral concentration, and even stones classified under the same name can present entirely different personalities. This natural unpredictability is what allows marble to create interiors that feel truly one of a kind.
CARRARA
Quarried in Tuscany, Carrara marble is renowned for its soft white base and delicate grey veining, often described as feather-like in its movement. However, even within Carrara, variation is significant - some blocks appear airy and almost translucent in tone, while others carry stronger linear veining that feels more structured and graphic.
Historically favoured by Roman sculptors and architects, Carrara remains a timeless choice for refined interiors. Its understated character allows it to shift effortlessly depending on its surroundings - appearing soft and subtle in one setting, yet crisp and architectural in another. Paired with brushed gold, it feels warm and luxurious; with matte black, it becomes quietly contemporary.
PIETRA GREY
Sourced from Iran, Pietra Grey is defined by its deep charcoal base and fine white veining, often accompanied by subtle warm undertones. Yet no two slabs present the same depth of colour - some blocks lean towards rich graphite with minimal contrast, while others reveal more pronounced veining and layered tonal movement.
This variation makes Pietra Grey exceptionally versatile in modern interiors. In lighter blocks, the stone feels soft and atmospheric; in deeper formations, it becomes bold and grounding. Its adaptability allows it to sit comfortably within both minimalist schemes and more industrial, textural spaces.
PANDA
Quarried in China, Panda marble is instantly recognisable for its dramatic black-and-white composition. However, its defining characteristic lies in its unpredictability. One block may feature sweeping, high-contrast stripes with bold directional movement, while another presents fragmented veining with softer transitions between tones.
This variation ensures that every Panda installation is entirely unique. Some pieces feel graphic and architectural, while others appear more abstract and fluid - almost painterly in their composition. It is this range within the same marble type that makes Panda such a compelling focal point in contemporary interiors.
ARABESCATO
From the Apuan Alps, Arabescato is characterised by a white base threaded with expressive charcoal veining. Yet its personality shifts significantly between blocks - some display delicate, wispy patterns that feel refined and restrained, while others feature dramatic, swirling movement with strong visual contrast.
Historically present in some of Europe’s most opulent interiors, Arabescato balances heritage with versatility. Depending on the cut, it can feel either bold and theatrical or soft and architectural, making it a highly adaptable choice for both classic and contemporary spaces.
CREMA MARFIL
Extracted in Spain, Crema Marfil is known for its warm beige base with soft brown and grey veining. However, its tonal range is wide - certain blocks appear almost creamy and uniform, while others reveal more visible veining and subtle mineral depth.
This internal variation allows Crema Marfil to shift between minimal and expressive depending on the slab selection. In softer forms, it creates calm, tonal interiors; in more structured variations, it introduces gentle movement and warmth.
HERMES GREY
Sourced from Turkey, Hermes Grey features a warm grey base with fine white veining that forms layered, organic patterns. Some blocks lean towards smooth, consistent tonal fields, while others present denser veining that creates a more textured, almost woven appearance.
This variability gives Hermes Grey a distinctly refined yet natural quality - equally suited to serene, minimalist environments or more dramatic, contrast-led interiors.
VOLAKAS
Quarried in Greece, Volakas is recognised for its soft white background and elegant, feathered veining in grey and warm taupe tones. However, each block differs subtly in tone and pattern - some appearing light and ethereal, while others carry richer veining with stronger directional flow.
This natural variation makes Volakas particularly effective in luxury interiors where subtle movement is preferred over high contrast, allowing each installation to feel calm yet visually dynamic.
DARK EMPERADOR
Mined in the Mediterranean region, Dark Emperador is a deep chocolate marble interwoven with cream and gold veining. Variation between blocks is pronounced - some present dense, almost uniform dark bases, while others reveal intricate veining networks that create a richer sense of movement.
These differences allow Dark Emperador to range from bold and monolithic to highly decorative and expressive, depending on the slab selection.
BLUE LIMESTONE
Sourced from China, Blue Limestone is typically a dark, near-black stone with subtle grey flecking. Yet its surface can vary from smooth and uniform to softly textured with visible mineral patterning, creating different levels of depth and contrast.
This variation gives the stone a versatile character - in more consistent blocks, it feels minimal and architectural; in more textured forms, it becomes atmospheric and organic.
CALACATTA
Quarried in Italy’s Apuan Mountains, Calacatta is celebrated for its white base and bold grey veining, often accented with warm undertones. However, no two Calacatta slabs are the same - some display strong, sculptural veins that dominate the surface, while others feature softer, more diffused movement.
This internal range allows Calacatta to adapt to different design intentions, from striking statement surfaces to more refined, elegant applications.
AMAZON BLUE
Amazon Blue is defined by its extraordinary range of tonal variation - from deep ocean blues to softer turquoise and grey-green transitions. Each block differs significantly, with some presenting dramatic colour shifts and others offering more subdued, clouded movement.
This variability gives Amazon Blue a highly expressive quality, with every installation becoming a completely unique composition of colour and pattern.
NERO MARQUINA
Sourced from Spain, Nero Marquina is a black marble defined by crisp white veining. Yet even within this classification, variation exists - some blocks feature fine, delicate veining, while others present bold, high-contrast streaks that dominate the surface.
This ensures that Nero Marquina can be either understated and refined or striking and graphic depending on the chosen slab.
CALACATTA VIOLA
From the Apuan Mountains in Tuscany, Calacatta Viola is distinguished by its white base and deep violet veining. However, each block varies dramatically - some exhibit bold, painterly strokes of purple, while others reveal softer lilac veining with more restrained movement.
This range of expression makes Calacatta Viola particularly sought after, as no two installations will ever feel the same - each one uniquely shaped by nature’s hand.
TIFFANY
Quarried in Russia, Tiffany marble is known for its complex layering of green, cream, black and mulberry tones. Variation between blocks is especially pronounced, with some surfaces appearing richly saturated and others more muted and translucent.
This diversity gives Tiffany a highly individual character, ensuring each piece feels entirely distinctive in tone and composition.
JADE GREEN
Jade Green ranges from deep emerald to soft, muted green depending on the block, with white and charcoal veining introducing further variation. Some slabs feel dense and saturated, while others are lighter and more fluid in tone.
This natural range makes Jade Green a dynamic material, capable of shifting between bold statement and subtle elegance.
ROSA NORWEGIAN
Extracted in Norway, Rosa Norwegian is defined by its rose-toned base, but its appearance varies significantly - some blocks lean towards soft blush pinks, while others feature deeper burgundy and green inclusions with stronger veining contrast.
This unpredictability gives each slab a distinctly expressive quality, making every installation feel entirely unique and inherently individual.
