The Ridgestone Collection

Tucked away in the picturesque landscapes of the Lake District, each property by Ridgestone - from its serene self-catering apartments to expansive Victorian townhouses - reflects impeccable interior design. The Lusso team took a trip to three of the Ridgestone properties across the stunning locations of Troutbeck, Kendal, and Windermere, and spoke with Jack Serginson, founder of the Ridgestone brand.

Can you tell us the story behind Ridgestone? What inspired its creation?

Ridgestone was founded by myself, Jack Serginson, and my business partner, Matthew Howarth, both of us grew up in the Lake District. With deep roots in the holiday let and hotel industry through our family businesses, we’ve long recognised a niche for creative, design-led solutions in the market. Ridgestone was born from our shared passion to elevate the standard and bring a fresh, innovative approach to holiday let design.

What would you say is your design philosophy? How does it shape the spaces you create?

Our design philosophy centres on creating spaces that evoke a sense of escape in a completely new environment giving the wow factor. We believe great design should not only be beautiful but also unique - especially in holiday lets, where guests are seeking both relaxation and excitement. We focus on combining natural textures, thoughtful modern touches, and a strong sense of place - often drawing from the local environment, like the Lake District’s earthy tones and landscapes. Every choice, from materials to lighting, is made with the aim to create a novel, once in a lifetime experience for our guests.

How do you integrate elements that reflect the unique character of the Lake District into your design concepts?

We integrate the unique character of the Lake District into our design concepts by drawing inspiration directly from the landscape, history, and architecture of the region. This includes using a natural, earthy palette - think soft greys, deep greens, and warm neutrals - that reflects the surrounding fells, lakes, and woodland.

We also incorporate locally sourced materials where possible, like slate, stone, and reclaimed wood, to give each space a sense of place and permanence. Textures play a big role too - wool, linen, and other tactile elements add warmth and echo the region’s heritage. On a broader level, we aim to create spaces that feel like an extension of the outdoors - calm, grounded, and in tune with the slower pace of life that people come to the Lake District to enjoy. Every detail, from the view lines to the lighting, is considered with that atmosphere in mind.

With growing emphasis on sustainability, how do you incorporate eco-friendly materials and practices into your designs without compromising on luxury?

Sustainability is a key consideration in our design process, especially as more of our clients actively request the use of environmentally friendly materials in their holiday homes. We believe that eco-conscious choices and luxury design can absolutely go hand in hand. From reclaimed wood and low-VOC paints to energy-efficient lighting and eco-certified fabrics, we thoughtfully source materials that reduce environmental impact while maintaining a high-end aesthetic. We also design with longevity and efficiency in mind - focusing on quality craftsmanship, insulation, and smart layout planning that naturally enhances energy performance. Ultimately, it's about creating beautiful, enduring spaces that are both responsible and refined - where sustainability enhances, rather than limits, the sense of luxury.

You chose Lusso for your project - can you tell us why?

We chose Lusso over and over because their products align perfectly with our design values - clean, contemporary aesthetics paired with exceptional quality. Their finishes bring a real sense of luxury to our spaces, which is exactly what we aim to deliver to our guests. Lusso’s minimalist, high-end designs complement our use of natural materials like microcement and stone, helping us achieve that refined, 5-star feel we’re known for. It’s not just about looks either - the durability and craftsmanship of Lusso products ensure they stand up to the demands of holiday letting while still making a statement.

If you could design a dream property anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

We would absolutely love the opportunity to design a property in The Alps. Just as we draw inspiration from the natural beauty and heritage of the Lake District, we’d be excited to embrace the rich culture, climate, and architectural traditions of the region - adapting each element thoughtfully into the heart of the design. From incorporating local materials and textures to reimagining spatial layouts that suit the lifestyle and environment, it would be a chance to get truly creative and craft something distinctive, grounded in place, yet unmistakably Ridgestone in its attention to detail, storytelling, and soul.
