How to bring wellness into the bathroom

Embrace natural materials

Natural materials are a great way to promote wellness in the home, allowing us to feel connected to the world around us. In the bathroom, natural materials such as wood or stone can easily be added to your theme, letting you feel closer to nature as you relax in your space. Now, we may be biased but stone is a great addition to any bathroom, bringing warmth and charm to your space. A stone bath or basin can be used alongside other natural materials such as wood flooring, or exposed brick to create a haven that celebrates the great outdoors.

Bring out your natural lighting

Lighting plays a huge part in creating a space that encourages wellness in the home. Natural lighting, in particular, has been proven to reduce headaches, improve mood and also reduce depression, so it’s a valuable addition to any relaxing bathroom. If you have a window in your bathroom, make sure that it’s not obstructed during the day, allowing natural outside light to flood your space. If you don’t have a window, or you tend to use your bathroom primarily in the evening, there are other ways to create the illusion of natural light. A good lighting concept that incorporates both a bright overhead light and smaller spotlights at different heights will help your space feel brighter. Try and avoid bulbs that give off yellow light as these can make the bathroom seem smaller.

Create a natural colour palette

Colour is probably the most important element when it comes to creating a relaxing space. The right hues will help create a tranquil atmosphere that allows you to unwind in the home, but which ones should you choose? Neutral shades are obviously a great choice for connecting your natural light and materials, however, there are other shades that can help evoke a sense of calm in your space. Light hues such as soft greens, pinks and blues will all work well in the bathroom. Not only are they proven to make people feel more positive, but they also increase productivity – ideal if you are enjoying a shower or bath before facing the day ahead! Keep you other decorative elements within the same colour scheme and to a minimum, a few art prints, a vase or soft towels should be enough to enhance your space.

Which leads us nicely to…enhancing your space with natural accessories!

Nature is your best accessory

The ultimate natural decorative accessory is a plant and not only do plants look great in the bathroom, but they also have countless wellness properties to help you maintain a tranquil atmosphere. Plants help to cleanse the air, lower stress, reduce toxins and boost your brain function.
